Metal Building Tools for Planning a Steel Building Before You Request a Quote

These metal building tools draft three pre-quote decisions for a steel building kit: building system, building size and exterior colors. Each result is a planning draft, because the engineered design depends on the code that applies at your site. We manufacture the primary and secondary structure and the roof and wall panels to a project-specific design, while foundation and on-site erection are completed locally on the buyer’s side.

  • Projects from 3,000 m²
  • Planning drafts, confirmed in design

Buyers who already know the building type, width × length × eave height and destination country can send those details directly, and we return a free, no-obligation quote with a layout and specification.

What the Metal Building Tools Settle Before You Contact a Supplier

Metal building tools on this page draft three items before you contact a supplier: the building system, the building dimensions and the exterior colors. Engineering checks belong to the design stage, and the price arrives with the written quote. The table sets out what each tool returns and what is confirmed later.

Decision you can draftWhat you leave withWhat is confirmed later
Building system: steel or concrete, and pre-engineered or conventional steelA one-sentence conclusion with the deciding factors, one card per system and a factor-by-factor table with a reason in each cellNo price comparison, build-time figures or span limits come from the tool; loads and spans are engineered to the code that applies at your site
Building size: width, length and eave heightSuggested dimensions and a parameter sheet; the sheet saves and restores in the same browser tab, downloads as JSON and comes with an English summary to copy by handThe result is planning arithmetic on the values you enter, with no structural, refrigeration or equipment design check; the buyer approves the 3D model before steel is cut
Exterior colors: roof, walls, trim, wainscot and doorsA 2D elevation preview on screen, with a PNG download and a five-part parameter sheetScreen colors are display approximations, with no company color chart and no physical match behind them; the PNG notes that physical samples and quotation material prevail

Price sits outside those three drafts because span, wind and snow loads, crane tonnage and local code drive it, together with the insulation scheme, door and window count and any mezzanine. A written quote therefore sets the price once those inputs are known. A suggested size also has an engineering range to respect: single clear spans run to 60 m as standard, and wider spans up to 100 m are engineered per project. Compare the planned width with that range before the dimensions go into an inquiry.

What to Prepare for a Steel Building Quote: Inputs the Tools Draft and Inputs You Supply

A steel building quote needs nine project inputs, and the planning tools draft only part of that list. The size planner starts from the building type you select and suggests width × length × eave height, while site, span type, crane, insulation and door and window count come from your project. Results reach an inquiry by hand: you copy the size planner’s English summary and paste it into the quote request. The color visualizer gives an English summary that you copy and paste the same way, its PNG is downloaded and attached separately, and neither tool fills in or submits a form.

Single span or multi-span is one of the nine inputs, and none of the three tools makes that choice for you. Single-span framing has no interior columns, so it suits a working floor that has to stay column-free. Multi-span framing with interior columns is the other form, for layouts that can accept columns. A clear span beyond the standard range is engineered per project, so the column-free width belongs in the inquiry from the start.

  1. Building type and use
  2. Width × length × eave height
  3. Site country and city
  4. Single span or multi-span
  5. Crane capacity
  6. Insulation, door and window count

We return a free layout, specification and itemized quote once those inputs arrive. The quote covers the steel structure, roof and wall panels, gutters and downpipes, bolts, accessories, construction drawings, an installation manual, export packing and a loading plan. Insulation and a crane rail system are options, so name them in the inquiry along with the number of doors and windows, any mezzanine and a high wind or snow zone.

Attach the size planner’s summary or your own dimensions to the six input groups above, add crane capacity where the building has a crane, and we reply with a layout, specification and itemized quote.

Choose a Metal Building Planning Tool by the Decision You Are Making

Each of the metal building tools matches one undecided item, and the three follow the buying order: system first, then size, then appearance. The system comparison comes first while steel versus concrete is still open. The size planner fits once the system is fixed and the footprint is open, and the color visualizer fits when scope is settled and only the exterior remains. Using all three is optional, and a project with its dimensions, site and use already fixed can skip them.

  1. Building system comparison

The comparison settles whether to build in steel or concrete, and in pre-engineered or conventional steel. Three systems each get a card: a pre-engineered metal building, conventional structural steel and concrete. You answer eight factors (stories, column-free span, crane, build time, expansion, site and local conditions, fire resistance and thermal mass, and soil), prefilled for a typical single-story warehouse. The tool returns a one-sentence conclusion with a factor-by-factor comparison, and sits at the top of its tool page.

  2. Building size planner

The size planner settles width, length and eave height. You pick a building type first, then fill in that type’s mode: hangar, warehouse, cold storage, office or crane. Every value is one you enter, with no prefilled engineering defaults, so missing figures come from your own designer or equipment supplier. The planner returns suggested dimensions and a parameter sheet, and its tool page switches between all five modes.

  3. Metal building color visualizer

The color visualizer settles the colors of the roof, walls, trim, wainscot and doors. You choose a gable or single-slope form, then pick a screen color for each of the five parts. The tool then draws a 2D elevation preview. Its palette uses generic RAL reference names as on-screen approximations and is not a company color chart, and the tool sits at the top of its tool page.

More Planning Tools

Four more tools cover the building type, the frame, the envelope and the quote comparison. Tools still being prepared appear here as plain names until their pages go live.

  1. Building type selector

Answer up to four questions about use, goods, work and cranes, and the selector points to the building type page that fits, with up to three others to compare.

  2. Frame type selector

Compare single-span, multi-span, single-slope and lean-to frame forms for your width and crane, then convert roof pitch between x:12, degrees and percent.

  3. Envelope and insulation selector

Compare roof and wall panel options for your use and climate, with a condensation check and vapor control notes.

  4. Quote and supplier comparison

Set two to four quotes side by side by scope, specifications and terms, and score each supplier on the evidence it gives you.

From Building System Choice to Confirmed Order: The Buying Sequence in Six Steps

A steel building purchase is grouped here into six steps: the first four follow the buying sequence from system choice to quote comparison, and the last two cover the order itself. The tools draft parts of the first three steps. The written quote, 3D model approval and the UT report before the balance govern the last three.

  1. Choose the building system

Steel or concrete, and pre-engineered or conventional steel, is the first decision in the buying order, and the system comparison covers it.

  2. Choose the building type and size

Building type follows use: warehouse, industrial plant, workshop, hangar, cold storage, office or commercial building. Width, length and eave height come next, which is the size planner’s part.

  3. Settle the frame, envelope and colors

Frames are single-span without interior columns or multi-span with them. Roof and wall cladding is 0.5 mm profiled steel sheet, with EPS, rock wool or PU sandwich panels as options. Colors are the color visualizer’s part of this step.

  4. Request the quote and compare scope

The project inputs go out, and a layout, specification and itemized quote comes back. Comparing suppliers means reading each quote line by line against what is included and what is excluded.

  5. Approve the 3D model before fabrication

Xinguangzheng models the building in Tekla 3D, and steel is cut only after the buyer approves the model. Production then takes 15–40 days by tonnage, confirmed in the quote, with ultrasonic testing of main welds and coating thickness measurement.

  6. Review the UT report, then pay the balance

Payment is by T/T or L/C, with a 30% deposit and 70% paid before shipment. The UT weld report and photos are sent before the balance is paid, and third-party inspection is welcome.

Questions About the Planning Tools and Ordering a Steel Building Kit

Do I need to use all the metal building tools before I ask for a quote?

No. Each tool covers one decision, either the building system, the building size or the exterior colors, and a quote request does not require any of them. A quote runs on the project inputs, and a buyer who already knows the dimensions, site and intended use can send those straight away.

Do the planning tools show a price for my building?

The system comparison leaves price out of its comparison. The color visualizer’s PNG download carries no quotation figures, and the size planner returns suggested dimensions and a parameter sheet. Your price arrives with the free, itemized quote, alongside a layout and specification.

Does a size planner result account for the building code at my site?

No. The planner’s result is planning arithmetic on the values you enter, and structural design checking sits outside it. Each export carries a note on the planning and design boundary, so the design governs. Loads, spans and coatings are engineered to the code that applies at your site, which is why the site country and city belong in every inquiry.

Is a Xinguangzheng steel building kit right for my project, and what is the minimum order?

Projects start from 3,000 m². Two cases fall outside the product: buildings under 3,000 m², and projects that need the supplier to build the foundation and erect the steel under one turnkey lump-sum contract. A local contractor is the simpler route for both, because Xinguangzheng supplies the kit only and erection is arranged with a local contractor.

Who manufactures the buildings, and which approvals does the company hold?

Qingdao Xinguangzheng Steel Structure Co., Ltd. manufactures the steel structures, with an annual capacity of up to 150,000 tonnes. The company is certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau to CSA W47.1 Division 1 and holds EN 1090 (CE), EAC (GOST 23118-2019), ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification. Certificate copies are available on request.

Which steel grade and coating system do the buildings use?

Primary frames are Q355B welded H-sections, with Q235B or Q460 as options. Corrosion protection is Sa2.5 blast cleaning followed by an epoxy zinc-rich primer, and hot-dip galvanizing can be specified as the alternative. All products are controlled under the ISO 9001 quality system.

How is the order packed and shipped, and which documents come with it?

Steel is bundled on steel pallets under an export packing and loading plan. Shipments leave Qingdao port in 20′GP, 40′GP, 40′HQ or 40′OT containers, or as bulk cargo. Construction drawings, the installation manual and the UT report with photos accompany the order, and sea transit days are confirmed in the quote by destination port.

Who handles the foundation and installation, and what guidance is provided?

The foundation is designed and built locally on the buyer’s side, using column base reaction data from Xinguangzheng. On-site erection is outside the quote, while an installation manual and free remote guidance are provided and on-site installation guidance is an option. The buildings are designed for a 50-year service life, with maintenance as set out in the maintenance manual.

What does the quote exclude, and who handles duties and customs?

The quote excludes foundation, on-site erection, sea freight, customs clearance, duties, taxes, insurance, inland transport, permits and site preparation. Duty rates and clearance fees are not published on this page, so check both for the destination country before setting a landed budget. Anchor bolt supply is confirmed in your quote.
