Metal Building Quote Comparison: Scope, Specs and Supplier Checks
Two steel building quotes can differ by the anchor bolts, the trim, the drawings or the freight long before they differ by the steel. Enter two to four quotes, mark what each one includes, copy the specifications and terms as written, and score each supplier on the evidence it gives you. The metal building quote comparison then lists the gaps, the differences and the questions to send back.

Compare Two to Four Steel Building Quotes in Four Steps
Scope first, then specifications and terms, then the supplier check, then results. Rows where the quotes differ are highlighted as you go. Nothing you enter is sent to us.
The comparison runs in your browser and is saved only on this device. It names no supplier and scores nobody in advance: the scores are yours, based on the evidence each supplier gives you.
Commercial Steel Building Quote Comparison: What Each Scope Line Covers
The thirty scope lines in the tool fall into three groups. Each group answers a different question about the price.
| Scope group | Lines in the tool | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Steel and envelope | Primary and secondary steel, bracing, roof and wall panels, insulation core, gutters and downspouts, trim and flashing, bolts and accessories, anchor bolts, doors and windows, skylights, crane runway, mezzanine steel | These are the parts of the kit. A quote that leaves out trim, anchor bolts or doors is not cheaper, it is smaller. |
| Engineering and documents | Structural design to your code and loads, 3D model for approval, shop and erection drawings, column base reactions, installation manual, weld inspection reports, coating thickness records | Drawings and inspection records decide how fast a local crew can erect and how much you can check before paying. |
| Packing, shipping and site | Export packing and loading plan, sea freight, insurance, customs, inland transport, erection, installation guidance, foundation, permits | The trade term and the site work split the total between the supplier and you. |
Our own quote reads against the checklist as below, and the full pre-engineered building scope of supply page explains each line. Anchor bolt supply is confirmed in your quote, and doors, windows, skylights and crane units are bought-in parts whose place in your package is confirmed in the quote too.
| Included in the quote | Available as options | Not included |
|---|---|---|
| Steel structure: Q355B welded H-section frames, galvanized Z / C purlins | Insulation: EPS, rock wool or PU sandwich panels | Foundation and site preparation |
| Roof and wall panels (0.5 mm profiled steel sheet) | Crane rail system | On-site installation |
| Gutters and downspouts; bolts and accessories | Facade design | Sea freight, insurance and inland transport |
| Shop drawings and installation manual | On-site installation guidance | Customs clearance, duties, taxes and permits |
| Export packing and loading plan |
Specifications and Terms Worth Lining Up Before the Price
The second step copies what each quote says, word for word. The right-hand column shows how our quote states each line, so you can see what a complete answer looks like.
| Line | What to compare | How Xinguangzheng quotes it |
|---|---|---|
| Main frame steel grade | Grade and standard of the welded or rolled sections | Q355B welded H-sections; Q235B or Q460 available |
| Roof and wall sheet | Sheet thickness and profile | 0.5 mm profiled steel sheet |
| Panel core | Core material and thickness | EPS, rock wool or PU, thickness confirmed in the quote |
| Surface preparation and coating | Blasting grade, primer and finish | Sa2.5 blasting and epoxy zinc-rich primer; hot-dip galvanizing available |
| Design code and loads | The code named and the wind and snow loads used | Engineered to the code that applies at your site, commonly AISC 360, EN 1993, AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170 or GB 50017 |
| Trade term and port | Where the supplier’s price stops | China factory-direct price, port of loading Qingdao, sea freight excluded |
| Payment terms | Deposit, balance and what you receive before paying it | T/T or L/C; 30% deposit, 70% before shipment, with UT reports and photos before the balance |
| Production time | Days, and from which milestone they run | 15–40 days depending on tonnage, confirmed in the quote |
Price comes last. Published market ranges for the cost to build metal building projects, and what each range covers, are set out in our cost guide. Use them to sense-check scale, not to judge a quote whose scope you have not lined up.
Supplier Checks Scored on Evidence, Not on Claims
Six checks, each scored 0–5 against the same evidence scale. Weights set how much each check counts in the total.
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0 | No information given |
| 1 | Stated, but no document |
| 2 | Partial documents |
| 3 | Full documents provided |
| 4 | Documents checked by you |
| 5 | Checked with the issuer or by a third party |
- Factory capacity: stated annual capacity and production lines, and a production slot that fits your schedule.
- Certifications: certificates issued to the company that fabricates your steel, in date, covering steel fabrication or welding, with copies you can check with the issuer.
- Drawings and design: a 3D model for your approval before fabrication, shop drawings, design to your site code, and column base reactions for your foundation engineer.
- Quality control: weld inspection with reports and photos before the balance is due, coating thickness checks, and third-party inspection allowed.
- Export experience: packing method and loading plan, container or bulk shipping, and the documents your country needs.
- Project references: projects of a similar type and size, with the country, that you can check.
The tool scores nobody in advance, including us. Set the weights to what matters for your project, ask every supplier the same questions in writing, and score only what each one sends back. When the comparison is done, our metal building quote request takes the same inputs, so our answer slots straight into your table.
Quote Comparison Questions: Scope, Gaps, Scores and Privacy
How do I compare metal building quotes from different suppliers?
Line up the scope first: for each item, note whether each quote includes it, offers it as an option, excludes it or says nothing. Then copy the specifications and terms as written, and only then compare prices. The tool on this page walks through those steps and lists the questions to send each supplier.
Why do two quotes for the same building size differ so much?
Usually because they cover different things: one includes trim, anchor bolts, drawings or packing and the other does not, or they use different steel grades, sheet thickness or design loads. The scope and specification differences in the results show where the gap comes from.
Which items are most often missing from a steel building quote?
Lines that are easy to leave unstated include anchor bolts, trim and flashing, doors and windows, the loading plan, weld inspection reports, and everything after the port: freight, insurance, customs, inland transport, erection and the foundation.
Is my comparison saved or sent to anyone?
It is saved only in your own browser on this device, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent to Xinguangzheng. Use the CSV download or print to keep a copy elsewhere.
How should I score a supplier’s certifications?
Check that each certificate is issued to the company that fabricates your steel, that it is in date, and that its scope covers steel fabrication or welding. A copy you have checked with the issuer scores higher than a logo on a website.
Does a Xinguangzheng quote include freight and installation?
No. Our quote is a China factory-direct price with Qingdao as the port of loading. Sea freight, insurance, customs, duties, inland transport, on-site installation and the foundation are separate, and an installation manual and free remote guidance come with the kit.
What do I need to send to get a quote I can compare?
Building type and use, width × length × eave height, site country and city, single-span or multi-span, crane tonnage, roof and wall insulation, door and window count, any mezzanine, and whether the site is in a high wind or snow zone.
Add Our Itemized Quote to Your Comparison
Send the same inputs you sent the other suppliers: width × length × eave height, site country and city, crane tonnage, insulation and door and window count. We return a free layout, specification and itemized quote, with the scope written line by line so it drops straight into your comparison.
