Metal Building Size Calculator for Hangars, Warehouses, Cold Storage, Offices and Crane Buildings

The Building Size Planner is a metal building size calculator that takes a building type and that mode’s parameters and returns planning dimensions with a parameter sheet. Every value is your input, so the result depends on what you enter and stays subject to structural design. We engineer the steel building per project and export it as a factory-prefabricated kit, while foundations and site erection are completed locally on the buyer’s side.

  • Five planning modes
  • Projects from 3,000 m²

A planning result becomes a quote request once width × length × eave height travel with the country of your site. We reply with a layout, a specification and an itemized quote for the steel building kit, free of charge.

Span, Eave Height, Bay Spacing and Factory Checks for a Metal Building Size Calculator Result

A metal building size calculator result depends on the mode you run: hangar mode returns clear width, depth and clear height, while crane mode returns a planned eave height. Final building dimensions are set in design, and the table lists the Xinguangzheng ranges a planning result can be checked against.

DimensionOur stated rangeWhat moves it
Clear spanSingle span without interior columns, routinely up to 60 m; larger spans up to 100 m are engineered per projectSpan is a price driver, and a multi-span frame with interior columns is the other structural form
Eave height6–12 mCan be raised
Bay spacing6–9 mAdjustable to the racking layout
Crane allowanceA quote can allow for a 5 t, 10 t or 20 t overhead bridge craneCrane tonnage is a price driver, and the crane runway system is an option

Span, wind and snow load, crane tonnage and the local code drive the price, and the insulation scheme, door and window count and any mezzanine add to it. A multi-span frame with interior columns suits a layout that can accept them, whereas a single span is the choice when the operation needs a floor free of columns. Loads, spans and coatings are engineered to the code that applies at your site, set by the destination country and project engineer, and high wind or snow zones take heavier frames and closer purlin spacing. If the planner returns a clear span beyond 60 m, expect the frame to be engineered as a project-specific design rather than a routine one.

The ranges in the table describe steel that Xinguangzheng fabricates in its own factory: primary frames, secondary structure, profiled sheet in 11 profiles and lightweight wall panels. Fabrication equipment covers laser plate cutting, intelligent section cutting and marking, welding robots, laser tube cutting, bevel milling, large platform drilling, large bending machines and an automatic coating line. Doors, windows, cranes, insulation core materials and skylights are supplied rather than manufactured by Xinguangzheng. A buyer comparing suppliers on a planned span can therefore ask each one which of these items it fabricates in-house.

Fabrication for a building at the planned size takes place in 150,000 m² (about 1.6 million sq ft) of factory space, staffed by 1,000+ employees. The legal entity behind the certificates, qualifications and listing is Qingdao Xinguangzheng Steel Structure Co., Ltd., listed on China’s National Equities Exchange and Quotations (NEEQ: 834422) since 2015. Xinguangzheng was founded in 1997. Because certificates and qualifications belong to that entity, a buyer who receives certificate copies can check that the holder’s name matches it before ordering from a planning result.

Which manufacturer certification matters to a planned building depends on the country of the site. For North America, Qingdao Xinguangzheng Steel Structure Co., Ltd. is certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau to CSA W47.1 Division 1, which covers the welding of steel structures. For Europe the company holds EN 1090 (CE) certification, and for Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union it holds EAC (GOST 23118-2019) certification, valid to April 2028. Certificate copies are available on request, so an inquiry that names the site country can ask for the matching one.

Qingdao Xinguangzheng Steel Structure Co., Ltd. also holds China’s Grade I qualifications for steel structure manufacturing and for steel structure engineering contracting. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification covers its environmental and occupational health and safety management systems. Those are company-level credentials that describe the manufacturer, not an individual building, which is designed to the code set by the destination country and the project engineer. The design basis for a planned building is therefore fixed only once the site country and city arrive with the parameter sheet.

Crane mode serves two building types, industrial buildings and workshops, and both appear in Xinguangzheng’s published project list. Industrial buildings on it are in Algeria, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Jamaica, and workshops are a showroom with workshop in Uruguay plus logistics and television-set workshops in Algeria. The list gives country and building type only, with floor areas and years unpublished, so it shows which types were supplied, not any span or eave height. A planning result is therefore still judged against the ranges in the table, not against the project list.

From Planner Result to Quote and Order: What to Send With Your Building Size

A planner parameter sheet is an input to a quote request rather than a quote, and how far it carries an inquiry depends on what travels with it. The sheet is copied as an English summary and pasted by hand into the inquiry, and the price itself is confirmed in an itemized quote.

Dimensions are only one of the inputs a quote needs. The six items below shape the structure and the price alongside them, so a sheet sent with all six gives the layout and the itemized quote one consistent set of inputs. The steel structure consists of Q355B welded H-section main frames with galvanized Z and C purlins.

  1. Building type and intended use
  2. Width × length × eave height
  3. Country and city of the site
  4. Single-span or multi-span frame
  5. Crane tonnage and mezzanine
  6. Insulation, door and window count, high wind or snow zone

The quote covers the steel structure, roof and wall panels, gutters and downpipes, bolts, accessories, construction drawings, the installation manual, export packing and a loading plan. Primary and secondary structure and the roof and wall panels are items we manufacture, while cranes and insulation core materials are items we supply. Insulation, a crane runway system, facade design and on-site installation guidance are options, while foundations, site erection, ocean freight, customs clearance, duties, taxes, insurance, inland transport, permits and site preparation are outside the quote. Budget those excluded items beside the kit price, and plan for a foundation designed and built locally on your side, using column base reaction data that Xinguangzheng provides.

Once dimensions, location and intended use are sent, the order runs in a set sequence: a free layout, specification and itemized quote, then 3D model approval, then production with ultrasonic testing. The whole project falls into four phases: consultation, 3D design approval, factory prefabrication and local installation. Factory prefabrication sits on Xinguangzheng’s side, while foundations and site erection sit with the buyer and a local contractor. Approval of the 3D model is the step that releases cutting, so no dimension from a planning result is cut into steel until the buyer has seen it in that model and approved it.

Fabricated steel leaves through the port of Qingdao, which is about 1.5 hours from the factory. Ocean transit time is not stated on this page, because it depends on the destination port and is confirmed in the quote. A parameter sheet that also names the destination country and port therefore lets the quote address the sea leg together with the building itself. The sheet goes to [email protected], with any drawings or site documents attached.

With the parameter sheet and those six inputs in one message, your inquiry already holds what a layout needs. We turn that set into a layout and an itemized quote, then send the 3D model for your approval before any steel is cut.

How Each Building Size Planner Mode Calculates: Hangar, Warehouse, Cold Storage, Office and Crane

The five building size planner modes apply transparent planning arithmetic to your own inputs, so every result depends on what you enter, not on pre-filled engineering defaults. No mode is a structural, refrigeration or equipment design check, and values come from you, your designer or your equipment supplier. The modes follow building types Xinguangzheng supplies, including an aircraft hangar and a warehouse in Australia, a pharmaceutical warehouse in Algeria and an office building in the Solomon Islands.

  1. Aircraft hangar mode

Used as an aircraft hangar size calculator, the mode covers side-by-side parallel parking only: clear width is aircraft count × wingspan plus clearances between aircraft and at both sides. Depth is aircraft length plus front and rear allowances, and clear height is tail height plus an overhead allowance. The door opening follows from aircraft moving abreast, wingspan and your clearances, and each door option’s outline is compared using the equipment allowance you enter. No aircraft database or door default is built in, and a door option is not a supply commitment.

  2. Warehouse mode

Used as a warehouse size calculator, the mode assumes straight rack rows: pallet positions are bays × rows × positions per bay × levels. The plan follows your rack width and depth, aisles and end allowances, and pallet width and depth are checked arithmetically against the rack space entered. Dock count is average daily trucks × service minutes per truck ÷ daily receiving minutes, rounded up, an average-workload minimum with no peak-queuing allowance. Every value is your input, and the result stays subject to actual racking and equipment selection.

  3. Cold storage mode

You name each temperature zone, its product and its temperature requirement in °C or °F, and can add or remove zones. Stock is daily mass × storage days, and storage volume is stock ÷ the effective storage density you enter. Floor area is volume ÷ stacking height ÷ usable-area ratio, depth is area ÷ your planned width, and results are listed per zone and in total. The mode assigns no temperature by product and calculates no refrigeration capacity, so density and stacking height are yours to enter.

  4. Office mode

Each department’s headcount is multiplied by the area per person you enter, plus meeting rooms and the reception area. Your circulation and service ratio then gives a planned total area, shown by department and shared space. Planned floors are total area ÷ the footprint available, rounded up. That count is arithmetic only, so local codes and the structural arrangement still need a design check.

  5. Crane mode

Industrial buildings and workshops share one crane mode, which takes capacity in metric tons, span, hook height and duty class. Planned eave height is hook height + equipment clearance + the structural allowance you enter. The output is a complete crane parameter sheet, without member sections, load capacity or equipment figures you have not provided. Equipment clearance comes from the crane supplier, and eave height stays subject to structural design.

Running the Building Size Planner, From Mode Choice to Parameter Sheet

A metal building size calculator result passes through six steps between choosing a mode and receiving an itemized quote, and the building type chosen first decides which inputs follow. Five of the steps happen inside the planner, and the sixth happens in the quote.

  1. Choose the building type

The building type comes first because it decides which mode’s inputs follow. All five modes are on this tool page, and you can switch from one to another.

  2. Enter your own values

Each figure is typed in by you or obtained from your own designer or equipment supplier, because no engineering default is pre-filled.

  3. Pick meters or feet

Units convert at 1 ft = 0.3048 m, and outputs stay labeled in m and m². Blank fields, more than 24 receiving hours a day or a missing crane duty class are rejected, and changing an input clears the earlier result.

  4. Read the planning result

Each result is marked as subject to design, and construction drawings come from the Tekla 3D model, not from the planner.

  5. Save or copy the sheet

The parameter sheet can be saved and reopened for editing in the same browser tab, or downloaded as JSON. An English summary can also be copied and pasted by hand into a quote request, and nothing is submitted automatically.

  6. Review the quote and approve the 3D model

Xinguangzheng returns a free layout, specification and itemized quote, then sends the 3D model for approval before cutting. Production takes 15–40 days, confirmed in the quote by tonnage.

Building Size Planner and Ordering FAQ

Can I order from a metal building size calculator result as it stands?

No. A planning result gives dimensions to start a quote, not fabrication dimensions. Loads, spans and coatings are then engineered to the code that applies at your site, set by the destination country and the project engineer. Steel is cut only after you approve the Tekla 3D model.

Does the building size planner suit small garages and sheds?

No. The minimum order is a 3,000 m² project, and smaller buildings are not supplied. A garage or shed buyer is better served by a local small-building supplier, where a simpler route already covers the job. The planner modes follow the larger building types in that range: hangars, warehouses, cold storage, offices and crane buildings.

Is the steel building kit quote a delivered, turnkey price?

No. The quoted price is a China factory price, and ocean freight is not part of it. A project that needs the supplier to take on foundations and erection locally under a turnkey lump-sum contract falls outside the supply scope. The product is supplied as a kit only, with erection arranged separately through a local contractor.

How is fabrication checked before the steel ships?

Factory checks are made on the fabricated steel, so first compare the 3D model sent for your approval before cutting against the dimensions on your parameter sheet. Factory inspection then covers ultrasonic testing of the main welds and a coating thickness measurement. All products are controlled under an ISO 9001 quality system.

What service life is a Xinguangzheng steel building designed for?

Xinguangzheng steel buildings are designed for a 50-year service life, with maintenance as set out in the maintenance manual. Coatings are engineered to the code that applies at your site, so send the site country and city with your parameter sheet. Corrosion protection is Sa2.5 blasting with an epoxy zinc-rich primer, and hot-dip galvanizing is an option.

When is payment due, and what proof arrives before the final 70%?

Payment is by T/T or L/C, with a 30% deposit and the remaining 70% paid before shipment. Before that balance falls due, you receive the UT weld test report and photos. Third-party inspection is welcome, so an inspector of your choice can review the steel before the balance is released.

How is the steel packed, and what documents ship with it?

Shipping documents are separate from the planner’s parameter sheet: construction drawings, the installation manual and the UT report with photos ship with the goods. Steel members are packed on steel pallets under export packing, with a loading plan included in the quote. Cargo moves in 20′GP, 40′GP, 40′HQ or 40′OT containers or as bulk cargo from the port of Qingdao.

Who erects the building on site?

Site erection is carried out by a contractor you appoint locally and is not priced in the quote. Support from the factory side is an installation manual plus free remote guidance while the frame goes up. On-site installation guidance is available as a quoted option.

Can Xinguangzheng’s capacity absorb my building size and schedule?

Xinguangzheng has an annual capacity of up to 150,000 tonnes of steel structures, with 12 production lines and six factories. Annual capacity is not a slot held for your order, so send the parameter sheet early. Production time is confirmed in the quote by tonnage, and a project typically runs 4–12 weeks from consultation to local installation.
